떡볶이? 만화방!

요즘 웹서핑을 할 수 있는 시간이 생기면 틈나는대로 NYT 블로그들을 둘러 보고 있다. 그러다 우연히 진화생물학자 Olivia Judson의 The Wild Side란 블로그를 알게되었는데, 그 날 이후 그녀의 글귀가 귀찮게 맴돌더니... 급기야 껌처럼 들러붙어 버리고 말았다.

아래는 그 문제의 'When Life Goes Cloudy(2008.02.19)' 칼럼 마지막 구절. 이 정도의 통찰력과 상상력을 가질 수만 있다면 원이 없겠다. ^^

이누도 잇신 감독의 <황색눈물>

이누도 잇신의 <죠제, 호랑이, 그리고 물고기들>, <메종 드 히미코>와는 달리 쇼와 시대라는 과거의 한 공간을 배경을 취하고 있지만
역시나 소수인이 속한, 마치 옆집에 있을 법한 세계를 그리고 있는 영화입니다.

이번에는 그 주인공들이 만화가, 화가, 소설가, 음악가들이죠.
세상에 쇼와시대에 만화가라니...
(주연은 아라시 멤버들이 맡았습니다)

하지만 역시 '잇신'스럽습니다.
아무렇지 않은 듯한 만남,
뜨거운 시절에 대한 응원,
불꽃놀이 이후의 아스라함 같은 것들이 모두 담겨있는...

주위에 여전히 꿈을 묻는 친구들이 있는지 모르겠습니다.
꿈을 믿는 친구는 점점 더 없어지고 있죠.

Wanderers of Wind(風の旅人)

Its menu, drinks, decorations were less special than I expected. However there was a certain philosophy in that space. The shop shows antique clocks, cameras, consol-games, photo books, illustration books, Japanese novels and magazines. Especially, its antique clocks seem to form the core of his area. I never think there are diverse clocks with each characteristics and nationality. At that time I could agree with her idea. Yes, he was so special guy.

Unlike his interest, my eyes were on a stock of magazines. Its title was ‘Wanderers of Wind(風の旅人, kazetabi)’ Its contents were consist of spectacle landscape photos, deep insights, and endless curiosity about a world. It was really a culture shock to me. Some idea hit me; ‘The more kinds of magazines we have, the wider and deeper of culture we can enjoy.’ Suddenly I envy the diversity of Japanese Magazines.
